Samisms – Four or Forty?

DSC_0635Here goes another installment of Samisms – the ramblings of a four year old, who just happend to start Kindergarten this week (pictured here working in his chicken coop).

On Women and Spas:  ”Mom, do you know that some girls sleep with pickles in their eyes?”

On Important News Stories:  The news was on one evening, and I said “Look Sam, there is Barack Obama’s dog.”  Sam looked up at me with surprise and said:  ”I didn’t know Barack Obama had a dog.”

On my Driving:  As I was driving Sam to school, I was asking him a number of different questions. Finally he said, “Mom, just concentrate on your driving.”

On Lawyers:  “Mom, do you know that Ingemar is a lawyer?”  ”Oh really, I reply.   ”What is a lawyer? “  His response: ”It’s someone who helps people cross the street.”

On the ultimate in decorum:  Sam was following hubby Mark through the hardware store, picked something up and Mark asked him to return it to the shelf, which he did.  Mark said, “Thanks Sam.”  Sam said:  “Oh Dad, don’t mention it.”

On Beer:  A tradition on our Maine vacations is the opening of the Seafood Souffle Restaurant, an imaginary place on the ledges at the shore, where the kids serve up all sorts of seafood surprises like seaweed pizza and snail juice.  My eldest son went to the restaurant and ordered a beer from Sam.  Sam replied, “we don’t have too many” and Dave said “what kind do you have?” and Sam replied:  ”We just have Jim and Tonics.”

On Rock Music:  Yes, Sam’s favorite band is the 1970’s rock band Foreigner.  His favorite songs?  Hot Blooded and “Juice Box Hero.”

On the Working Life:  Sam, on the afternoon of the first day of Kindergarten:  ”When is Saturday?”  “In four days Sam,” replies Dad.  “Good,” says Sam.  I’m really going to need a break from school by then.”

On Higher Learning:  The first day of school I asked Sam what he wanted to learn this year in Kindergarten.  His response:  “I want to learn all the names of dogs.”   (so much for reading and writing!)

Enjoy your weekend!

My all time favorite was perhaps when he was 3, as he watched me intently as I was doing something in the kitchen he asked, “Charlotte were you every a baby?” I love him!
