I am the proud owner of a Baggalini. My sister and I discovered them in a little shop in Maine a year or two ago, and fell in love with the smartness of this small purse/backpack. It has become my black bag of choice and I love the fact that I can wear it like a back pack and be hands free. As a Mom who feels like I could operate much more efficiently if I were a true OctaMom (8 hands, that is, not children, please) – I appreciate having the hands free ability when I’m running around (typically like a mad woman doing my errands).
So fast forward to last Friday evening when my daughter and I were sitting next to each other at her piano recital. “Why don’t you get a fashionable bag?” says my 13 year old. “What do you mean? I like this bag,” I reply. “Mom, just buy a designer bag. That one is ugly.”
Man, I’m in trouble. While I will still use my Baggalini – because I really do love it, I will always think about my daughter’s comments. Likewise, I know when she compliments something that I wear, I’ve done good. In fact, I just ordered a new pair of shoes; she was the first to wear them.
And for those of you who are confident enough to sport a Baggalini, I say, go for it. We each have our own style, and I don’t need to sport a $200 bag to prove it, right?
P.S. Another fashion story. On the same night my daughter shot down my favorite purse, she was wearing a cute dress that she bought at a store in Evanston, IL called the Fashion Tomato. I erupt into laughter every time I say or think about this store. Fashion is about the last thing I would associate with a tomato. I get a mental picture of a tomato wearing a dress – not too attractive. Go figure.

Anne, your last sentence made me think of Bob the Tomato from the VeggieTales series…and I think he doesn’t wear anything! :O
I don’t have any girls in the house, and the guys usually ignore my fashion decisions, so I don’t know how you feel when someone in your house has a strong fashion reaction. But I have another kind of Baggalini, which is not a backpack but a regular over-the-shoulder variety. You can use it in horizontal or vertical position.
Speaking of disagreeing with fashion choices from different generations, I wonder what your daughter thinks about girls wearing flip-flops to formal occasions or guys wearing their pants low so you can see their plaid box briefs?
I say you could be a fashion leader! Wear your Baggalini with confidence and maybe you’ll actually inspire others to join in.
