Madeleine Peyroux – A Singer Worth Checking Out

madeline-peyroux1I’ve recently discovered Madeleine Peyroux – a jazz/blues/pop singer with the voice of Billie Holiday. She was born in Atlanta but spent most of her childhood growing up in Paris with her French mother – and broke into the music scene through street side performances.

While I only just discovered her, she has been on the scene since 1996 – although there was an 8 year gap in the time between her first two albums.  Our Wise Women friend, Stacy, also coincidently mentioned this artist to me recently, and with Stacy’s musical talents, I always know if she likes someone, that person is worth listening to.

I became a Billie Holiday fan in my early 20’s – and it is wonderful to discover another vocalist who can project the same throaty, smokey voice that Billie does. Check out one of her songs here, and let me know what you think.

If anyone wants, check out this link also. It was the first song that I heard from Madeleine and I thought it was an older French singer.

I have heard a couple of her songs on my favorite radio station. I will have to listen for more.
