In January, we come up with New Year’s resolutions with the best of intentions and full of possibility. How about three months later? Barb gets a wake-up call email and reflects on her progress.
“How are you doing on your New Year’s resolutions?” That was the title of an email I got from my sister the other day. It gave me a jolt. This year I did what I have done in years past. I thought a lot about my resolutions in January, worked on them half-heartedly, and then let them sort of fade away.
I imagine that is the fate of most New Year’s resolutions. So, the beginning of the second quarter of the year seems a good time to re-evaluate the situation.
Fortunately for me the year is not over yet. I still have time. Fortunately for me I have a sister who is committed to her resolutions this year. Her goal was to lose a set amount of weight by June and to run two 5K races. She’s well on her way. She’s an inspiration. Fortunately for me there’s someone who cares about my resolutions. Thus, the question – “how are you doing on your New Year’s resolutions?”
On New Year’s Eve we were together with my sister and her family. At Wise Hubby’s suggestion, we made SMART resolutions –
Specific; Measurable; Achievable; Realistic; and with a Timeline
I had two resolutions. One was typical; it was about losing weight and getting toned. The other was about creating Baby Books for my two boys.
In a moment of pure insanity, I said that I would be able to wear a bikini by July 1st. Now I probably haven’t willingly worn a real bikini (as opposed to a tankini) since I was a teenager. At 45 I have a lot more to contend with than a few extra pounds and saggy muscles, so I have no idea was possessed me.
My second resolution was to create baby books for my two boys. I said I would do this by their 12th and 10th birthdays on May 20th and July 1st. Baby books are a well known topic (joke?) among a certain circle of my friends. I have boxes full of all the content – keepsakes, milestone dates, photos, etc. that I have religiously treasured, packed up and moved across the world four times in the past 12 years.
On resolution one, I’ve lost a few pounds and tried to exercise more, but I am no where near my goal. On the baby books, I am operating true to form – waiting for my deadlines to approach.
Thanks for the wake-up call little sis!
What were other Wise Women’s resolutions? How are you doing on them? What helps keep you focused on your objective?

Can I just tell you how impressed I am that you even set the goal of being bikini-ready? You rock, Barb! I’ve completely lost track of any New Year’s intentions I may have made (so much so, I can’t remember if I even made any).
